Customer-Facing EPR Questions & Answers & savings

We are responsible under UK law for the packaging we import. Even if your business falls below the £1 million turnover threshold, the packaging still enters the system and we are legally required to account for it. The EPR fee helps us cover the cost of compliance.

Yes, but not directly in some cases. If your business is under £2 million turnover or places less than 50 tonnes of packaging on the market, you pay your EPR fees to your supplier, who in turn pays the regulator.

No. You are not paying DEFRA or HMRC. The EPR fee is a commercial charge from Glassworks International, reflecting our legal obligations under the EPR scheme as the importer or first UK seller.

The EPR fee is part of our pricing structure, similar to freight or fuel surcharges. While you’re not legally obligated, it’s part of our supply cost and not optional once agreed in commercial terms.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a UK regulation that requires packaging producers and importers to report and pay for the environmental cost of the packaging they place on the market.
